About this site

The Electrics Archive is an ongoing project to document electrical installations from around the world: how they look like, how they function and how they differ between countries.

The aim is to provide people with an easy to understand overview of these installations through text and images, helping to clarify the functioning of infrastructure that is so essential for our everyday lives and yet whose details are often ignored.

This website covers:
LV power distribution (partially), earthing, power meters, supplier's fuses/cutouts, breaker and fuse boxes, light switches, plugs and sockets (up to 480V AC), adaptors, power strips.

This website doesn't cover:
MV and HV supplies, anything beyond 500V AC, DC and/or SELV supplies and devices, household appliances, light fixtures.

Please note that, while care has been taken to ensure that the information on here is correct, this is a hobby project. What's written on this website should not be taken as instructions on how to work on electrical installations or replace formal training.
